The information contained in these pages are valid in addition to the specific instructions of electrical machines designed to operate in industrial sites: plants and/or various machinery.

Electric rotating machines have dangerous parts because they under tension and with movement during operation; so the removal of electrical and mechanical protection, an improper use and failure inspection and maintenance can cause serious damage persons and objects.
The safety officer must ensure and guarantee that the machine is installed, commissioned, inspected, maintened and possibly repaired exclusively by qualified personnel.
The work must be authorized by the safety officer and the machine must be electrically disconnected from the network.
The electric motors are components that are coupled to other machines for which the Manager is the one who installs and must guarantee an adequate degree of protection during the service, if the machine operating anomalies such as: increases in temperature, vibration and noise absorption other than nominal, promptly notify the maintenance Manager.

The motor must be installed in such a way as to allow good ventilation, avoiding that the air flow is obstructed.
The support of the motor must be flat, rigid and solid. The coupling between the motor and the working machine can be directed through an elastic joint or take place using belts, chains or gears. Semi-joint coupling or pulley body must be carefully balanced. The balancing must be made before the execution of the slot for the key.
In case that this was already practiced, insert a half key in the slot before balancing.
Before installation, remove with solvent the antirust paint on the end of the shaft.
During operation of the coupling or pulley, avoid violent shocks which could damage the motor bearings. In direct coupling with joint is essential to achieve an exact alignment and adjust shaft height with shims.
In coupling with belts, care should be taken that the motor axis is parallel to that of the pulley, in order to avoid additional loading on the supports.
After these operations, fix well the motor to its base with the corresponding bolts or screws.


To connect the line to the Terminal Board must use cables with a section suited to the rated current of the motor, cause minimal voltage drop.
The electric motor must by law be connected to the grounding system.
This connection must be done on the existing ground terminal on the motor. Please note that this operation is critical to the safety of persons.
All electric motors must be protected against short circuit with fuses or circuit breakers. Those with power exceeding 1 kW must be protected against overload with a thermal relay on the three phases. Advisable also a protection against phase failure. The control switch must be sized for the maximum current absorbed by the motor and normally must also comply with the regulations. Before commissioning the motor is a good idea to make sure that the power supply voltage matches to that shown on the motor plate.


Like all modern asynchronous electric motors, it require little maintenance. For conserving engine it is recommended to periodically clean the outside of the same species if working in dusty or dirty.
As for the lubrication no maintenance is necessary for types 63-160 since they are mounted permanently lubricated ball bearings.
For types from 180 up is good to periodically check the correct bearing and gear ensure any additions of grease.
Just an excessive noise manifests bearing should be replaced without waiting for additional failures. Particular care should be finally laid in maintaining optimum efficiency of the power supply line and the motor terminal box.
